Tweede Kamer
Heisteeg 6
GEZELLIG
You will be lucky to get a table here no matter what time of day you visit. But it is most definitely worth the effort! This shop is small, dimly lit, traditional, and very, very popular. A truly classic Dutch coffeeshop that has made its reputation as a "locals cafe' first" and then by word of mouth has been found by visitors far and wide. The specialty of the house is a HUGE MENU of high quality foreign hashish. The weed menu is equally extensive and also the quality is first class. Tweedy Kammer proves the adage that if you are good people will find you.
Take a #.1 or 2 Tram to "Spui" (pronounced "Spouw") keep on the right hand side of the road, walk around the corner into Spuistraat, look across the road and you will see a little alley between a restaurant and other shops, this is Heisteeg, Tweede Kamer is in the center of this short block on the right side.

Sheba
Warmoesstraat (about 200 meters from the Krasnapolsky Hotel)
One of my favorite 'must go' places on my rounds. One of the first coffeshops in the city.
The lady behind the bar is always super friendly and always has a smile on her face. The weed is always good ...the hash is spectacular and always fair prices for above average quality.
Like all the coffeeshops it is busy but never overcrowded ...and the coffee is first rate also!

t` Nes-Cafe
Nes 33
A bar known for it's special hospitality - pool, chess, cards and backgammon are the favorite games. Everyone aged 18 years or older is welcome - seven days a week.
Drinks
They have a very special collection of beers. Their main brand is Gulpener. This quality beer from Limburg is hard to find in Amsterdam; A joy for beer lovers!!

Some of their delisious draft beers
A Smoker friendly Place
The Nes-cafe has created a relaxing ambience to enjoy the city of Amsterdam and it's large variety of people. A high-quality vaporizer is available to all our guests. Indeed, smokers are welcome at the Nes!
Good menu of both weed & hash at fair prices and pipes are available for customers use. Now Nes has free internet access for customers. Know by all for their very friendly staff who are always happy to advise on "smoking", Amsterdam sights, and local nightlife.
This is a great place also for Pool
The Nes-cafe is the place for a game of pool. For only 50 Euro cents you play pool on the 8 foot Brunswick Gold Crown II pool table. Put your name on the board and you will be invited for an exciting challenge.
From the Dam: face the Krasnapolsky Hotel - "Nes" is the small street across Damstraat

Coffeeshop Mellow Yellow
Address: Vijzelgracht 33 (Located just off the Prinsengracht)
"The first coffeeshop in Amsterdam ever", is their claim. Several others lie claim to the same fame. Our research shows Mellow Yellow was certainly "One of the first" that was started back in 1970s, along with a few others ..seemingly all at about the same time. "Mello" is still a basically Dutch place and a little break from the packed to the rafters tourist places in the Red Light District, but it is still popular with the tourists and they do search it out. Hard for us to chill with all the commotion.
Hasn't been redecorated since it's beginning days it seems like but still worth a look. Some have accused the staff of being a little snooty but we are always treated like we are customers ...with respect. One can't argue with the weed and hash quality ..and the coffee is standard Amsterdam good quality.
Open Mon-Thursday 9 am till 12 pm, on weekends 8 am - 1 am.

Coffeeshop ‘t Ballonnetje
Roeterstraat 12
GEZELLIG
From Centraal Station, Dam Square or Rembrandtplein take tram 9 or 14 to Artis Zoo. From Leidseplein tram 7 stops right on Roetersstraat whereas 6 and 10 stop at nearby Weesperplein where there's also a metro station.
Another one of the oldest coffeeshops in town and another of our favorite coffeeshops. I have spent many days here ..winter and summer working on this website on my laptop... a great place to spend an entire day away from the tourist routine in the center. There is a balcony-style upper level and a comfortable terrace. Loacated right in front of the University of Amsterdam, so you can find many students chilling at all times of the day also a great stop off before visiting the Artis Zoo with the "kids"
This is a very healthy coffee shop. Homemade soups, fresh fruits with ginseng are on the menu along with many other health promoting items. Toasties are also available.
Sister shop to Rusland, they have the same weed and drinks menu, including a super selection of tea on offer. So drop in and have a nice cup of tea and a killer joint as you get the chance to chat and mingle with native Amsterdamers. Get high and "get local" all at the same time.
It's hard to find a more laid-back Gezellig coffeeshop so don't miss the chance to embrace this Dutch classic..you may never look for another place!

Coffeeshop Rusland
Rusland 14-16
GEZELLIG
Not far from the bustling heart of the RedLight district but on a pleasent quiet and wide little street.
A great place for travelers on a lower budget as they have good prices on breakfasts and lunches. The weed and hash menu is also of impressive quality at fair prices. The crowd is on the young and fun side. Nice place to chill. Some say it was the first coffeeshop in Amsterdam..We think it was the second but no one really seems to know for sure. No matter ...do stop in and enjoy the atmosphere. The staff will make you feel welcome!

Cum Laude Coffeeshop NOW another Kadinsky
Langebrugsteeg 7A
Strongly recommend is the trans himalayan hash- not too heavy, sweet taste with a nice smooth buzz ..so buy the hash and go someplace unique and Gezelig
As far as the other important coffeeshop ingreediants it is ok but stll a chain now and has lost it's individual appeal for us.

New
York
Linnaeusstraat
83. Take either trams 3, 6, 9, or 14
A bit outside of Central district, but
a nice local Coffeeshop. A couple of blocks from the front of ARTIS Zoo. They often get in the White
Russian one of our personally favorite smokes. Pool tables in the back and separate Weed /Hash counter. Nice folks and a mostly Local clientele. A
large outside sitting area is in the sun most of the
day and the shop is right near Ooster Park and
the Tropin Museum.

Barney’s
Haarlemmerstraat 102
GEZELLIG
What would we do without Barney's for breakfast after a long pary night? Let alone that first joint on Sunday morning... Lots of delisious food ..great coffee...good smoke. Great value for the money...What more could you ask for?

Betty Boops
Nieuwezijds Kolk 12
Open Daily 09:00 - 01:00
Just behind the Dam square you will find this small coffeeshop where coffee isn't even on the menu. Their establishment is most popular for their hash and weed, which has a good value for money reputation. The entire interior has been decorated in Betty Boop memorabilia. A hidden jem of a place with good service and a nice, relaxed atmosphere especially warm and friendly staff that always make you feel right at home.

The Old Church
This is one of my favorite little places to chill out, (hide out) .. in the Red Light District, Very quiet and mellow little place despite being smack-dab in the middle of the tourist area, ...there is good seating upstairs with a huge window to watch the action in the cortyard...fasinating!!
Oh ...and the weed is usually good and not overly expensive. Nice hot and tasty coffee last visit!

Hunter’s Coffeeshop
Warmoesstraat 24
Just head down Warmastraat and look for the giant peeing dog.
Hunter’s has been one of my favorite haunts since I moved to Amsterdam over a decade ago. My first month here was spent in a local youth hostle which was indeed a tragic place...Met a lot of new local friends at Hunter's that helped me get established in my new city. Hunters will always have a special place in my heart.
Opens EARLY so if you want a morning joint this is the place. It used to be called Hunter's Bar, and was a cafe-coffeeshop, that is, a place where alcohol was available alongside cannabis. In April 2007 shops were forced to choose between alcohol and cannabis Hunters rallied ..and opened a Vodka bar close by. So if you want to smoke and drink your covered..you just need to take a short walk
Located right at the beginning of the Red Light district, this place can be a little touristy, however, the black interior gives a nice cozy lounge feel and there are ample chairs and couches to relax..
Staff is really friendly and the prices are somewhat cheaper than other shops in the area. They make great shakes, too. There’s no tobacco allowed here, but you can use the substitute they offer. info@hunters-coffeeshop.com

Rick's Coffeeshop - Wild Style - Now known simply as Rick's Coffeeshop
Oudezijds Voorburgwal 250
Next door to Rick's Cafe, Wild Style has a Native American theme and a cage stuffed with birds. A cosy little bar, nice music playing and is an ideal place to sit in the window and watch life go by.Staff are always nice and helpful, prices are good. Always a great place to chill out.

Front Page Coffeeshop NOW another Kadinsky
Another Kadinsky "chain member" how so so unispired!
This place is now a Kadinsky also and is as it always was a small and cozy coffee shop that attracts a fairly international clientele. This translates as "Touristy" and just an ok place. Better places down the road!

Yo-Yo
2E Jan van den Heijdenstraat 79
Near to the Albert Cuyp Market, in "De Pijp",
If you like your products organic, the Yo-Yo is for you. It’s a friendly, neighbourhood spot and a perfect escape from the often overcrowded Albert Cuypmarkt. The staff are usually very friendly with more of a cafe' feeling to the place than the tourist oriented coffeeshop.

Machu Picchu Now changed to "Bushdoctor Amstel"
Amstel 36
Great atmosphere, nice staff and good selection of both grass and hash Standard sit up bar with stools and a small sitting area, very cozy and over looks a great canal for watching the passing parade. Very comfortable to hid out from work and get really high and let the day blur away

La Canna
Large, commercial, and nothing special in the weed and hash department. A big, bright place on three levels right in the heart of the shopping district. Glass, chrome and palm trees ...tacky at it's best.
Several pool tables on the top floor. A "smart" shop sells the usual (mushrooms, herbal xtc, etc.) .The music is mostly reggae. Save you money and keep walking!

Kadinsky Coffeeshop
One of a chain of three coffeeshops...lost it's uniqueness and staff is not all that friendly. Guess that comes with the chain store mentality.
Basically, the other two smaller Kadinskys are just cannabis shops rather than coffeeshops. Good, reasonably priced grass but not a nice place. AGAIN keep walking!

Pink Floyd NOW Dampkring 2
Haarlemmerstraat 44
Pink Floyd was one of our all time favorite coffeeshops. It had great weed and hash ..and some of my favorite music. But time changes tastes in all things ..including music
NOW (In 2007) it has been taken over by Dampkring which is not a bad thing as Dampkring is also one of my favorite places and the transformation of the Floyd has been a success. Do stop in and have a relaxed visit. Tell them we sent you and you may get an extra cookie with your coffee!

GEZELLIG
This is a nice comfortable Dutch place! The
decor is Central Asian and the walls and outside of
the building are covered with intricate Sufi paintings
which have little jewels glued into them, there are
pictures of Hindu gods and Afghan treasures and a great
sculpted tree. Music includes blues, reggae, rock,
salsa, and soul . The word has gotten out about the wonderful
environment in this shop and lots of fortunate visitors
are finding their way to this pretty, friendly shop.
The owners and staff know their hashish and they are
also serious about weed. They have a good balance between
high-quality hashish from around the world and a delicious,
reasonably priced selection of Dutch and imported grass.

De
Rokerij
Lange
Leidsedwarstraat 41
GEZELLIG
This coffeeshop is close by the
Leidseplein and has a real nice groove. They have lots
of seats in this coffeeshop that is much bigger than
it appears from outside. The drink prices are reasonable
for the Leidseplein area and the bud selection is pretty
nice. A nice comfortable atmosphere here.

Dutch
Flowers
Singel
387 - Tel. +31 (0)20-624-7624
This shop is located near the city
center on the Singel canal. The lighting is subdued,
yet it is quite bright and cheerful on sunny days.
There are lots of windows and some interesting art
on the walls. We've found that the staff isn't usually
very helpful or friendly. The passing parade of citizens makes for great peoplewatching on pleasent days

Coffeeshop Little
Vijzelgracht 47 Easy to miss as it is very small and below your eye-level.
Great things come in small packages..so goes the saying. Never been truer than in this case. "Little" is a very little basement club, just downstairs from the sidewalk, don't bump your head. This is a good shop and a better alternative to the Mellow Yellow which is down the street. Not a tourist place with locals in and out all the time. A quite friendly crew, a good variety of weed and hash at great prices.
Is it the smallest bathroom in the world? not sure but it's definitely in the running!
Don't miss the Little one

Coffeeshop
Smokey
Rembrandtsplein
Though this coffeeshop has very expensive drinks, it
has a large bar, several pool tables, and a decent
bud selection. We on occasion run in to get an extra bag on our late night romps. Not a chill out place as the tempo is frantic most nights.

Trinity
Sarphatistraat 87
This coffee shop is way out of the city center, making it a “locals only” spot. There’s a big bar with a great selection, much, much cheaper than the center. Also a few pool tables, a big screen TV, and a separate smoking room.
The staff are really friendly and the locals are constantly intrigued as to how tourists find the place. Not as packed as it used to be but it’s more relaxed than many other places.

Kerkstraat
51 - Tel. +31 (0)20-639-1154
Popular but we can't figure why. The

in glassine bags, which is unique, but not acceptable,
and the staff are not particularly friendly or helpful. maybe we missed something? I doubt it!

Abraxas
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal (in between
the Dam and Spui)
GEZELLIG
This coffeeshop is expanding rapidly to
be one of the larger coffeeshops in the city. Currently
they have a nice selection of some of the most popular
buds in Amsterdam. We hope they don't get to big!
A
NICE PLACE, and although a little hard to find, it's well worth the effort.

Grasshopper
Oudebrugsteeg
16
Is the most obvious Coffeeshop in front of Central
Station; gets a lot of unknowing vulnerable tourists.
Very big, three-leveled Coffeeshop with full bar. Low
lighting and interesting stuff to look at can't make
up for the high drink prices and substandard buds. A
major blight on the coffeeshop scene! Keep Walking!

Grasshopper
Nieuwezijds

The original Grasshopper and is not much better than
its new huge branch previously mentioned. Keep Walking!

Greenhouse
Tolstraat
4
The most notable thing about the Green House are the
many awards they have won over the last three years,
all of which are proudly displayed near the entrance.
This shop has a cozy decor and a cannabis-knowledgable
clientele that expects the best and gets it here. There
are pool tournaments played on the two tables upstairs.
Full bar, as well as juice and sodas. The staff is friendly, helpful
and well informed.

Greenhouse "Namaste"
Waterlooplein
345 - Tel. +31 (0)20-622-5477
This new version of the original Green
House is smaller and closer to the city center. Namaste
is a greeting in India. It doesn't really translate well
but it means have a healthy, happy, spiritual day.The
mosaics inside are interesting and well done.

Greenhouse
III
Oudezijds Voorburgwal 191 ( just
off the corner of Damstraat)
This is the third edition of the Greenhouse in Amsterdam.
This one is very creatively and artistically decorated.
A real site to see. They have similar varieties of
buds in all their shops: a steady variety of really
nice but generally high-priced buds. No matter the
price you pay though, you'll be happy with the quality
taste and buzz. Although prices are still higher than
the locals want to pay so mostly a tourist favorite

Greenhouse
Effect
Warmoesstraat 53
Other local residents, besides
ourselves, have had equally bad and expensive experiences here. Our last visit was a bit better ...maybe the space cake we tried had the desired effect? We found it ok but not very friendly by any measure ...anyhow try it for yourself and make your own judgment. We say ...there ar better things down the road. Keep Walking!

Anytime
Korte Kolksteeg
# 5 - Tel. +31 (0)20-420-8698
Centrally located, the Coffeeshop Anytime is easy
to find. Located just off of the Spuistraat, towards
Central Station, behind the Palace at the Dam. "No time is a better name". Keep Walking!

(Formerly:
Lucky Mothers)
Keizersgracht
665
The name still confuses us ..especially after an incoherent explanation by the bar girl. She must have been sampling the wares ...Close to Rembrandtplein. Here you will find a downstairs
area. Marble tables and quartz crystals create a classic hippy
atmosphere. Lucky Mothers has a vaporizer and an assortment
of Graffix bongs to borrow, as well as a chill-out
cellar, a room designed to feel like the inside of
a genie bottle. a nice place and nice people to serve
you! The HempBurger was strange and quite tasteless but ...the menu has some other good choices to much on. Worth a look!

Open: Daily 09.30 - 01.00
We
can't make our mind up with this place ..sometimes just ok ...sometimes
the staff are really rude ..details...
Founded
in 1982, this shop is close to Waterlooplein and
Nieuwmarkt. It has two fairly small levels. The top level
has some comfortable chairs. if you can find a seat. and the coffeeshop. The cannabis
menu truly encompasses the world. There are more sorts
of imported grass than you'll usually see in other
places and a wide variety of hashish, They
specialize in black hash and Moroccan. There is also
an excellent variety of bio-weeds. Blue Bird won the
Hashish Cup in 1995 with their Nepali Temple Balls.
You
can't smoke on the patio outside and they are very rude
telling you about it! Terrible coffee last time ...when I complained the coffee was cold and weak I was told "not to drink it" ...after finally getting a seat we found the seats were sticky ..when we asked for a wet rag to clean it up ...we got a role of the eyes and ...no towel.
Our best advice is ..if you must ...buy your
choice of gear ..and then go have a lot more fun in the
park! It's primarily the rudeness that compels us to say ..Keep Walking!

It's a fairly quiet simple place with some interesting,
not seen before selections, plus some common buds.
It's a nice place to stop for tea or a coffee. The perfect pink joint can be found in this bright, modern, friendly, great place!

This small, cozy, shop is located near Central Station. The
shop serves all the standard munches, sodas, juice, coffee,
and tea. A wide assortment of VERY GOOD cannabis and hashish is
available and at decent prices. Many locals frequent the place and are usually an older crowd. I love the bright halogen light on the second
floor's cannabis bar, which gives you an excellent light
to examine the weed. A comfortable place to relax if not busy. A recent guest said "Wow I can't say enough good things about this "under dog" coffeeshop.

Bulldog (lots of them in the area... Bulldog shops that is")
13-17 Leidseplein - Korte Leidsedwarsstraat
45 - 132 Oudezijds Voorburgwal ...
The
original Bulldog Coffeeshop is one of the oldest in Amsterdam,
, Mostly a tourist rip off ...although admittedly a classic one. They
have a pretty poor selection here, but plenty of outdoor
seats. Watch out
for the main floor Bulldog, they'll rip you off at every
turn as prices are over the top!! The downstairs Coffeeshop on the right
side of the building is better but not by much. Several "branch
offices" have been opened at Korte Leidsedwarsstraat
45 and at several locations at 132 Oudezijds Voorburgwal and a couple more on the same street. Keep Walking!
